2. Present: Brave Police J-Decker - PG (Mild Language)

To say Gun Max was upset, even angry, would be an understatement. The green-clad patrol mech was much closer to irate, border lining on murderous. He was currently covered in mud, grease, paint, and Lord only knew what else. He was soaked from helm to pede from walking his way through the downtown Shinjuku warehouse district construction in the rain.

Yeah, that's right, walking! "Damn stupid kids and their mutts." Gun Max cursed, wiping a streak of grim from his cheek. He'd been on call when a report of armed robbery at a residential area came in. Being the closest to the scene, Gun Max naturally changed his course to head off the thieves. Somewhere between points A and B, a group of neighborhood children and their pets darted out into the street. In order to not hit them, Gun Max had to slide from the already narrow streets into an even narrower alleyway.

One that led straight into a liquid chemical and waste disposal plant. Gun Max careened over a small hill and dunked head first into a man-made pond that held all the paint, solvents, acids, and other household chemicals that couldn't simply be thrown into a dump. And, since the Hourglass had yet to be repaired, the processing was taking longer than usual.

Gun Max had faired out alright. He stank, itched, and was more than off-colored…but was otherwise unharmed. Gun Bike, however, took the brunt of the fall and was twisted into a strange but near perfect pretzel. The other BP's managed to apprehend the thief and loaded Gun Bike's carcass into J-Roader's compartment, taking it to the station. No one offered to give the green patrol mech a ride, for obvious reasons.

And thus we return to the fact that Gun Max was peeved off. Toudou said it would take over a week to get Gun Max's bike properly repaired. A whole week! The other robots didn't understand what the big deal was, it was just a bike right? Wrong! Since Gun Max didn't have an alternate mode (per se), he and Gun Bike were two halves of one person. Gun Bike may not have had an A.I., let alone a Super-A.I., but it was still a piece of Gun Max as much as Dekkado's arm or Drill Boy's wings.

Finally arriving at the Brave Police HQ, Gun Max stepped inside the front garage. In the entrance hall, Gun Bike had been unloaded and was waiting to be moved to the repair bay. No doubt that would happen tomorrow morning, after the Christmas party. Sighing heavily, Gun Max ran a tentative hand along Gun Bike mangled frame. Knowing there was nothing you could do didn't make the urge to vomit any less prominent.

Sighing again, Gun Max walked on to the wash racks. It would likely take him hours to scrub off all this crud. On the way, he ran into the BP's newest recruit. "Hi, Gun Ma-*sniffsniff* DANG! You reek!!" Beat shouted, flinching and scrunching her nose. She was carrying a large tool box in one hand, and some fresh armor plating under the other arm. "I heard what happened, but jeez dude!"

"No in the mood, Beat." Gun Max spat. "Go play nurse somewhere else." Stalking away, Gun Max failed to notice the armor was the some template model as Gun Bike.

Drying off the last few drops of water Gun Max checked his internal chronometer. It had, indeed, taken him almost two hours to get every bit of gunk dug out of his armor and another half hour the get the stank off. The party was going to start soon, not that Gun Max planned on attending. The green-mech was about to call it a night but decided to look in on Gun Bike one more time before turning in.

Glancing down the garage hallway, the green-clad mech gasped. Gun Bike was nearly 100% repaired. The twisted frame had been replaced for a newer, sturdier one. The scarred and bent armor was either hammered out and re-welded or substituted for fresh molding. The engine, computer, fusion gears, and hover blades and all been salvaged and transferred to the new body.

Walking forward in the dim lighting, Gun Max stepped carefully so as not to disturb any of the parts or tools strewn about the floor. Who could've done this? Toudou had said it'd take a week or more to fix Gun Bike…Taking a brief inventory, he felt like he'd seen these things before, even recently. Accessing his memory, Gun Max remembered seeing similar items when he talked to Beat earlier.

Waitaminute. Walking a few steps closer, Gun Max saw a shadowy figure slumped over the seat of Gun Bike's chassis. It was Beat, nestled between the bike and the wall, her smaller form easily hidden until you were almost right next to her. She was breathing steadily and her optics were offlined and shuttered. "She's asleep?" Gun Max whispered to himself.

Kneeling down, Gun Max placed a hand on Beat's shoulder, causing her to pop right up. She, still half asleep, drew a wrench and held it like a gun. "Hold uh-oh, hi Gun Max…" Beat dropped the wrench, yawned, and curled back onto Gun Bike's seat for about 3 seconds before jumping back up now fully awake. "Gun Max! Your back! Already? What time is it?"

"Five after six." Gun Max answered. "Beat, how did you do this?" He asked, indicating his bike. "Why did you do this?"

Beat blushed. "Merry Christmas." She mumbled.

Gun Max didn't that coming. "Do what?"

"I know how much Gun Bike means to you." Beat began. "So, I asked Toudou-san if I could try and fix it tonight. He said 'sure, but you'll be working alone'. 'Cause, everyone's at the party and its Christmas so everyone gets off early and they wouldn't be in until after the 3-day weekend."

"There's a 3-day weekend?"

"Yes, you dork!" Beat playfully slapped Gun Max's shoulder. "Do you not read the memos?"

"Not unless there marked urgent or important. We cover all our cases in the meetings." The green-mech said defensively. "But that's not important! You fixed Gun Bike!" Gun Max hugged Beat around her slender waist, bringing their chests close enough to touch. "I could kiss you!"

"Save that thought for later, cowboy." Beat teased. "I'm not exactly done. Everything's set into the new body and works fine except for the Max Armor transforming cog. The fusion gears for the Max Cannon work, so I don't understand why the armor mode doesn't…"

"While I appreciate your anal-retentiveness," Gun Max chuckled, "I think you did a perfect job, doing in less than three hours what the repair crew said would take a week. This is the best Christmas present I could ever get." Gun Max planted a chaste kiss on Beat's cheek before releasing her from his embrace. "Why don't we forget this mess and the party and just go cruising?"

"Sure!" Beat eagerly followed Gun Max in mounting Gun Bike, wrapping her arms tightly around his chest. Revving up his bike's engine, Gun Max whooped as the two sped off. That noise had never sounded so sweet.

Definitely, the best present ever!
